5 Resourceful Ways to Use Business Cards

Every day we see the dramatic ways business cards are changing. No longer are black and white business cards the only thing you see. People constantly strive to make their card stand out from the rest, whether by colour, font, shape, or more. However, the business card is only half the battle. Once you have it, you have to know how to use it. Think outside the box. You never know where your next prospect could be.

1.  Leave It in Random Places.

Not everyone will come out and say they need your services. Leave your card where it will get picked up. For instance, if you’re a photographer, leave your business card next to diapers at the store or next to the wedding cake toppers in the decoration aisle. Where to leave your card is up to you and your business, but the possibilities are endless. Another innovative option is to use magnetic business cards to leave around. People can pick them up and place them on the fridge at home until they are ready to call.

2.  Have a Business Referral Program.

Referral programs are a great way to increase sales while offering incentives to those who already use your business. Start off by handing out your business cards to current customer or clients. Then have them hand out the business cards to those who would benefit from your business. Offer incentives such as 10% off your next total purchase, a free gift, or $5 for each new customer.

3.  Create Bookmarks.

Whether you’re a photographer, an attorney, or even the CEO of an international company, every business is associated with something. Stop by the book store, a library, or the media section of the store. Place your business card inside of popular or new release books that pertain to your business or to the interests of your clientele.

4.  Point It Out.

This method is fairly easy. Basically your ultimate goal is to find a way to make your business card stand out from the rest. If you have your business card on a bulletin board, use tacks to create an arrow pointing at your card. Have your cards placed on the counter of a gas station? Create a business card holder that announces “Free” or “Take One”.

5.  Leave It with Your Tip.

Restaurants, hotels, anywhere you leave a tip, add your business card to it. The workers are constantly talking with other people and generally, they are friendly people. Therefore, they can easily pass along your information to someone who needs it.

Business cards are a versatile marketing tool. Unfortunately, you never know when someone will need your business card. Thus you have to find ways to get your card out there and into the hands of your prospects. Sometimes this can mean offering your card in more unconventional methods, such as placing it inside of a popular book. The main things to remember are to take advantage of the resource you have and always keep some business cards on you.
